Two Hurt in Crash Involving Two Big Rigs in Hopkins Co.

KYTC says the accident involved two semi trucks and a chemical leak is involved

UPDATE

The Hopkins County Sheriff's Office says the crash happened just before 4 p.m.

Deputies say the drivers of the two trucks were 54-year-old Pascal Ngabo of Austin, Texas, and 60-year-old Perry Maner of Chouteau, Oklahoma.

Maner told deputies he was following Ngabo when he rapidly slowed down and attempted to make an illegal U-turn on the interstate. Maner was unable to avoid striking Ngabo.

Maner was transporting anhydrous ammonia, and the tanker was damaged in the crash.

Both drivers were taken to Baptist Health Madisonville for non-life-threatening injuries.

UPDATE

Eyewitness News is told both southbound lanes on I-69 are back open, one northbound lane is back open.

Traffic is moving slowly at this time.

Emergency responders are continuing to work along the roadway, motorists are asked to use caution.

Interstate 69 in Hopkins County is closed near the Mortons Gap interchange due to a crash.

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, two semi trucks reportedly collided along I-69 and there is a chemical leak believed to be Anhydrous Ammonia.

I-69 is blocked in both directions.

KYTC says it's expected to be closed until 7:15 p.m.

A detour can be used via US 41 between the Earlington Connector and the US 62 interchange with Pennyrile Parkway at Nortonville.
