ISP: Car Clocked at 113 mph; Drugs, Handgun Found During Search

A traffic stop for alleged speeding on Interstate 64 Wednesday afternoon resulted in two men being arrested after authorities said they found drugs and a handgun.

Around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, a vehicle was stopped after an Indiana State Police Troopers clocked it driving at a speed of 113 mph in Spencer County.

The vehicle, driven by 21-year-old Christopher Mackey of Aurora, Colorado did stop for ISP.

Troopers said they could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. When the vehicle was searched, authorities said they found a 9mm handgun with a 30 round magazine at the feet of the passenger, 25-year-old Justin Beckner of North Tazewell, Virginia.

Beckner did not have a handgun license, according to ISP.

Troopers also said they found a pound of marijuana in the trunk of the car.

Both Beckner and Mackey were arrested and booked in the Spencer County Jail.

Mackey is charged with dealing marijuana, possession of marijuana, reckless driving, reckless driving, and operating without a valid license.

Beckner is charged with dealing marijuana, possession of marijuana, and possession of a firearm without a license.
