ISP Sergeant makes difference using emojis

Today is National Emoji Day and people all over are celebrating tiny little pictures that changed the way we communicate online forever.
From hearts to smiley faces and flags...there’s pretty much any emoji you could need for any situation.
Most people use emojis through texts, but Indiana State Police Sergeant Todd Ringle uses them a little differently.
He explained to me all the work that goes behind one simple message.
“And it’s a challenge to put a message out using emojis. When I put something out using the emojis, I want it to flow right, I want people to clearly understand my message. It may take me 10 minutes to figure out how to put that all together but it’s a challenge and I enjoy doing it.”
Ringle is famous for using emojis in his tweets. He hopes they’ll catch readers attention.
“I know people look at the tweets and at the back of their mind they’re driving a little safer or maybe they’re not drinking or driving because of that simple tweet that took me less than a few minutes to put together,” said Ringle.
The science behind it?
“You should be able to easily read it and a lot of times I’ll have other people read it before I send it out just to make sure people will know what that message is all about.”
His most famous emoji tweet? Don’t drink and drive.
Ringle hopes that this unique way of spreading awareness will one day save a life.
“Anytime I put out a message and i see that it is retweeted over a hundred times and it’s reaching thousands and thousands of people it’s very heartwarming to know that I may be making a difference.”
