Local Woman Finds Missing Photos from the 1950's

An Evansville woman is searching for a local family after finding photos dating back to the 1950's scattered in the yard of her families old home.

Gina Carey went to check on her family's vacant property where she lived many years ago. She noticed what she thought was trash in the lawn but when she went to pick it up she found very old family pictures.

The pictures were not only scattered through the lawn at the 116 East Florida street residence but a pile of photos was also found on the front porch.

Pictures including wedding photos, baby photos, military photos dating back to the 1950's.

One of the photos was taken right next door to the house where it was found however, there are no dates or names on any of the photos.

Eyewitness News did some digging and found a couple of  old mail envelopes near the pictures addressed to a Sydney Vanwinkle who is believed to have owned a radiator shop on Heidelbach Avenue many years ago.

We found he had a grandson named Mark Vanwinkle and we went to three addresses in the area to find him but learned he was deceased as was his grandfather.

The Carey family is hoping to find the owner of these photos to return them because they say they can tell they are special memories.

"I know somebody wants them," said Gina Carey, "I don't know why they were scattered around the yard I don't know why they were on the porch. "
