Madisonville 'Not Worried' About Streetlights for Eclipse

When The Great Eclipse reaches totality on Monday, Madisonville city officials said they won't worry about streetlights if they go on.

Mayor David Jackson said they won't manually turn off streetlights if they go on during the eclipse.

He said they shouldn't interfere with anyone's view since most viewing areas are away from streets.

The sun will also be near its highest point in the sky.

Streetlights are turned on by an electric eye when it detects sunlight.

Jackson said some county parks have switches where workers can turn lights off manually as a precaution.
