Martha Crosley Case Delayed Until September

A hearing that could determine the fate of nearly two dozen dogs seized as part of an animal cruelty investigation won't take place for another month.

Attorneys and animal advocates were packed in a Vanderburgh County courtroom Wednesday morning.

But the attorney representing Martha Crosley requested and was granted more time to review the evidence.

Crosley pleaded guilty to five counts of animal cruelty last month, but the judge in that case ordered 21 of those abused dogs to be returned to Crosley's care.

That prompted a civil lawsuit by a number of local animal shelters hoping to prevent that from happening.

Despite the delay, the plaintiff's attorneys say they are ready.

Plaintiff's Attorney Susan Odoyo says, “It is frustrating, but we certainly understand that the judge granted it and gave him more time. We'll be ready on the third time that we come out here. Third time is the charm, right?”

A hearing on the matter will now take place September 29.

The 21 dogs will still remain in the custody of Animal Control and the Vanderburgh Humane Society pending the outcome of the civil case.
