Mayor Winnecke to Host Forums on Suicide Prevention

Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke is hosting a series of upcoming community forums on the subject of suicide prevention.

The mayor's announcement came at the annual meeting of the Mental Health America of Vanderburgh County.

There will be six meetings in total starting in April.

The public forums will be based on the QPR Training method, which stands for 'Question, Persuade and Refer.'

Winnecke said the idea is to arm people with information.

“Maybe it's someone who's suffering themselves. Maybe it's someone who's thinking about killing themselves and maybe this information will help them. Maybe it's a loved one or a friend. Maybe it's a colleague that you know is suffering in some deep way. Maybe this training will help you help them,” said the mayor.
