Mesker Park Zoo Welcomes Baby Porcupines and Prairie Dogs

Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden announced the birth of two African crested porcupines and four prairie dogs just in time for Mother's Day.

We are told the boy and girl porcupettes were born on April 30 and are the fourth and fifth births of the zoo's adult pair since they arrived at the zoo in 2013.

The babies are named “June Bug” and “Sneedy” in memory of Zookeeper Junius Sneed.

Both of the babies, as well as mom and dad, can be seen on exhibit in the Children's Enchanted Forest area.

Four pups started popping out of the burrows in the prairie dog exhibit in North America.

The birth date of the pups is unknown, but is estimated to have been in early March as they typically don't make an appearance outside their burrow until they are six weeks old.
