Microbrewery Parking Motion Granted on Conditions

After more than an hour, and multiple questions a planned microbrewery on W. Franklin St. in Evansville gets the go-ahead to use less parking than city code requires.

Brew Pub Manager John Mills says, "I'm excited I mean now we have a direction that we know we can move forward. This is just one of the hurdles we had to overcome. There are still more."

Maiden's Brew Pub is using the Old Magic Moments building at Wabash Ave. and 9th Ave.

Current city code calls for the business to have 90 parking spots. Owners originally asked for that to be relaxed to just 28. But during Thursday's Board of Zoning Appeals meeting, the owners said a nearby lot was added to the mix to increase the request to 50 spots.

The Board of Zoning Appeals granted this motion in a 6-1 vote conditionally. One of those conditions is the brewery must close before midnight,  and the Site Review must approve it.

So what do neighbors think?

Lamasco Neighborhood Association President Fred Mulfinger says, "I think with his willingness to accept the conditions for hours I think this will be okay, the neighbors will be okay."

"I think it's great the more the merrier," nearby resident Tracie Englehardt says. "It's just another good reason to come down to Franklin street."

Manager John Mills says he's not sure when they will open as there are still a lot of things in the works.
