Neighbors Feel "Unsafe" After String of Break Ins Near Lodge Community School

On any given early morning, Crystal Court, a small street on Evansville's Southside, is usually quiet, but that sleepy street was woken up Monday morning.

Mendy Adair, a neighbor said, "it was around 4:30 in the morning, my alarm was going off on my van and it went off about four or five times. I thought I was having a dream."

Evansville Police Department received at least two reports of a car break in on Crystal Court since Monday.

Adair's van, like her across-the-street neighbor's truck, was one of them, but that's not whats keeping her up tonight.

What Adair didn't know until yesterday, the man who broke into her car was hiding behind her neighbor's bushes watching her.

This and more learned from her next door neighbor's surveillance video.

Adair said,"it really freaked me out, I didn't even know it happened until yesterday, it made me sick to my stomach. Literally, I was sick."

Adair, like her friends and neighbors were left a lot more spooked than the intruder.

"We put in security lights, but with this guy the other night, lights didn't bother him one bit. The lights across the street lit up bright when he went over, nope, not one bit,”Adair's next door neighbor, Kevin Koch said.
“He  just waited right behind that bush right there for her to go inside and he continued on."

Koch said after a home invasion at his address two years ago on Thanksgiving, he is extremely concerned about his and others safety on Crystal Court.

“You change the whole way you live your life, you're always checking around the corner, even in the middle of the day. You come in, you lock that door, I have three locks on each door,” Koch said.

But the only thing making it easier to go to sleep tonight, knowing that you're not alone.

Adair said, "whenever I leave I check everything, I check everything when everyone else is leaving around here, too, we're looking out for people."

EPD says there are no suspects or arrests made yet in the case.

You are asked to keep an eye out for the suspect, who is estimated to be thin, light skinned, and between 5'9 and 5'11. He was last seen with a backpack wearing glasses.

The Evansville Police Department would like to remind you to always lock your car doors and never leave anything valuable inside.

Police say as the investigation continues, they believe the string of break ins on Crystal Court may be in connection to the break in of multiple convenience stores also in the area.
