Neighbors Recall Moments After House Explosion

People living near the scene of Tuesday’s house explosion are still processing what happened.

Among those: people who helped pulled the three survivors out to safety immediately after the blast.

"I saw glass flying and the roof cave in,” said Brandy Nally, who lives down the street from the site. She, and Jordan, saw the blast just a few houses down. After it happened, they ran towards it, to see if anyone was alive.

"It was, like, no thinking, just doing it. Our adrenaline was just going,” Brandy says. “Jordan grabbed the little boy and I was helping him, took him to set him down."

"He was a good kid,” Jordan says, describing what the child who survived the blast was like. "He liked to play. He never got in to trouble."

"We ran right back over, got the mom out, took her and got her out. They started hollering there was like three other people in the house,” Brandy added.

The two who died were were found in the back of the house, several hours after the blast. Evansville Police say they'll start their phase of the investigation once fire investigators end theirs at the scene. Vectren crews did more tests near the home after previous tests showed no indications of natural gas.  Fire investigators say some type of gas may have caused it. As the scene quieted down people on Hercules Avenue processed their emotions.

"I was on my knees trying to get underneath the wood, and there was an older lady and they were yelling help, and screams, and we couldn't get to them,” says Brandy, describing more of the effort to get survivors to safer areas. "I fell out then because they were yelling and crying and there was nothing else we could've done."

While police and fire investigators search for answers, the Nallys thoughts are now with the survivors.

"I just want them to get better and live their life normal because, I mean, I know they're hurting."
Evansville Police also secured a search warrant for the scene. Police say that's what they normally do during a death investigation.
