Neighbors 'Relieved' by Alleged K2 Dealer's Arrest

"We want to help as much as we can, to offer to be a beacon of light in our neighborhood, and this makes it harder to do that,” Salvation Army Captain Scott Strissel said Wednesday.

Strissel said the Salvation Army has seen increased drug use around its property over the last few months.

"There’s a lot of hopelessness, a lot of no-way-out, in terms of, for families and individuals in need, and they're looking for some way to escape. And so K2 is just another one of those poisons that we see hurting the people in our community,” he said.

It's gotten so bad; the Salvation Army set up no-trespassing signs at night, and asked police to do increased patrols.

At the United Caring Shelter, police are on the lookout as well, and people taking shelter there tell Eyewitness News more and more people are using and selling the drug.

In one Evansville neighborhood, people are fed up.

"It’s real bad. We've seen people fall out in the street over there. And then there was another person down the street here that was trying to take their clothes off, and to me, it's worse than meth,” Brenda Harris said.

Now, one of the alleged dealers is off the streets. EPD arrested Tarone Johnson Tuesday, and seized 110.2 grams of K2. EPD said officers observed Johnson selling K2 in the 1100 block of West Florida Street- the street where Brenda Harris lives.

She said the neighborhood is relieved by Johnson’s arrest.

“Yes, most of them, besides the ones that's doing it. You know, they're not happy, but you know what? They need to get out of our neighborhood; because we're not gonna stop. We're not gonna stop until they're gone,” Harris said.

EPD said K2 was involved in up to 20 overdoses in recent weeks, but officers say they can’t connect Johnson’s arrest to the overdoses at this point.
