Man killed in crash in Daviess County, KY identified

A toxicology report is pending

DAVIESS COUNTY, KY (WEHT) - Traffic is moving again on a stretch of Highway 144 in Daviess County, KY after a deadly accident Tuesday morning.

The Daviess County Coroner's Office confirms to Eyewitness News that 35-year-old Steven Coons of Owensboro was killed and three others were hurt in the two-vehicle crash.

It happened in the 3000 block of Highway 144 at 7:43 Tuesday morning.

The sheriff's office says Coons was driving a GMC Canyon eastbound when it crossed all lanes of traffic and struck another vehicle head on.

Coons died at the scene from blunt force trauma.

The occupants of the other vehicle, 42-year-old Heather Dant, 13-year old Trenton Dant, and 5-year-old Taylor Dant, all of Maceo, were taken by ambulance to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.

Taylor Dant was later taken by medical helicopter to St. Vincent in Evansville.

Deputies say speed and intoxicants are believed to be a factor in the crash.

A toxicology report is pending.
