Owensboro Police Accepting Applications for Citizen's Academy

The Owensboro Police Department wants to give citizens the chance to see how their department operates on a day-to-day basis.

The police department wants to stress that the department works for the citizens of Owensboro.

OPD is accepting applications for the 2017 Citizen's Police Academy. This is the 24th year that this program has been offered to the Owensboro community.

It's a 14-week long class that meets at the department for three-hour sessions one night each week.

It's designed to give insight into the day-to-day operations of the Owensboro Police Department.

It will run from August 3 to November 2 on each Thursday from 6-9 p.m.

• Patrol Operations
• Hiring Process
• Training
• Accreditation
• Professional Standards
• Criminal Investigations
• Polygraph
• Narcotics
• Hazardous Material Recovery
• D.U.I. – portable breath test/intoxilyzer
• Arrest/Handcuffing Procedures
• Officer Safety
• Dispatch – Codes & Signals
• Street Crimes – Surveillance Equipment, Undercover Operations
• OPD Firing Range – Firearms Demonstration
• Emergency Response Team – Dynamic Entry, Rappelling
• K-9 Officer – Training, Capabilities, Demonstration
