Patchwork Central celebrates anniversary, birthday

For 40 years, Patchwork Central has impacted tens of thousands of lives in the Evansville community. Today, they celebrated with ice cream. People came from all over the country to honor the anniversary and those who have contributed.

But Patchwork wouldn’t be the same without one special person, and today just so happens to be his 95th birthday.

“However in the case of Alan Winslow we are celebrating far more than 95 years of restoration and metabolism,” said John Rich, Patchwork co-founder.

When Winslow came to the organization in the 80s he helped with neighborhood economic development. Little did he know just what impact he would have on his community.

“His name may not be revered in history, but the world would be a much less noble place without Alan Winslow,” said Rich.

Even at his age, he still comes at least three times a week to serve coffee and assist with fundraising.

“It’s what I do,” said Winslow. His key to a long life? “Being sort of nurtured. I’ve had a good life. It’s all due to other people taking care of me.”

Winslow said being in a caring community is the best medicine for a long and happy life.
