People Already Applying to 'Opt Out' of Volunteer Fire Fee in Henderson County

Since the Henderson County Fiscal Court passed a volunteer firefighter funding fee, people have already been choosing to opt out.

The $55 fee will be attached to property tax bill for anyone living in Henderson County.

The fee will help fund the volunteer fire station in the county.

However, the fee has an 'opt out' option that some people have already applied for.

Judge Executive Brad Schneider said that so far he's pleased with the ordinance.

“So far, so good. The process is working as we hoped it would and most of the comments have been positive. People aren't opting out because they have something against the volunteer firefighters. They just want the option of sending their donations in directly which is fine,” said Schneider.

Henderson County Fiscal Court has already received 319 opt out forms from property owners.

The last day to opt out is June 9.
