Prayer Vigil Held for Nicky Hayden

An emotional night in Owensboro where a service is held to pray for native son Nicky Hayden.

Family and friends gather at Precious Blood Church hoping for the speedy recovery of Nicky, critically injured in a bicycle accident in Italy.

Nicky's uncle Marty Hayden says,"It's starting sink in a little bit about how grave this might be."

Pews full of emotions, tears and hope...hope that their prayers will be answered for the "Kentucky Kid" Nicky Hayden.

"We were just all wide awake basically worried hoping for any tidbit of information but it was slow and coming," Marty says.

A six hour time change and language barriers, least of the families worries as Nicky suffers serious brain damage after a bicycle crash involving a car.

While he might be in Italy with his immediate family by his side his other family and friends gathered in his hometown.

"We're happy to see so many people that know him come out and express faith so it was heartening," Marty says.

Marty says Nicky never gave up his homegrown flavor as a worldwide rock star.

"He might be the only person of any of us that I've ever known who wrote their dream down when they were four years old…never changed it and achieved it when the odds they say are 20 million to one to be a motor champion," Marty says. "It's tough."

Hayden is currently in a medically induced coma, but if he can hear him in any way, his uncle Marty wants him to know this, "I could say a lot...but he's the family role model in so many ways," Marty says.
