Rep. Bucshon Says He Supports Efforts to Secure Border

US Rep. Larry Bucshon (R-IN) tells Eyewitness News recent executive actions regarding border security are welcomed news after what he calls “eight years of failed immigration policy.”

Eyewitness News spoke with the congressman by phone Thursday while he was at the annual Republican retreat in Philadelphia.

“I'm supportive of the efforts to secure our southern border, to make sure people come to our country legally. We are a country of immigrants, but it is also about the safety and security of the American people. And I think we should continue to pursue policies that ensure we do that.”

The congressman says he is committed to working with the Trump administration to secure the border and enforce the rule of law.

Torture and Waterboarding

Rep. Larry Bucshon is backing away from a separate Trump promise: to bring back waterboarding and other forms of torture.

“Well, torture is illegal and it will remain illegal,” Rep. Bucshon said. “I think, you know, the President may have his views on various issues. I think Speaker Ryan said today exactly what I said. Torture is illegal and will remain illegal.”
