Sen. Paul Meets Ohio Co. Business Leaders

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul makes his first appearance in the Tri-State since President Trump was sworn in.

He spoke to the Ohio County Chamber of Commerce at their monthly luncheon at Kimball International in Fordsville.

His stop comes as other senators and congressmen face protests across the country, although no protestors were visible in Fordsville.

"I kind of think things are actually going pretty well," he told attendees.

During his nearly 15 minute speech, most of his attention was on the Affordable Care Act, and his bill introduced last month, which allows for tax credits of up to $5,000, lets people buy only what they need, and allows those buying insurance to join local or national associations to purchase it in bulk, claiming it would make insurance more affordable for more people.

"In Tennessee, insurance went up in the premium market went up 63% last year. Arizona is even worse. So our concern is what we call the Affordable Care Act actually became unaffordable," says Sen. Paul.

He also discussed ways to make businesses more competitive, calling for lower income taxes and fewer regulations. Last week, President Trump repealed the Stream Protection Rule which protects waterways from coal mining waste. Judge Executive David Johnston says rules like that hurt the coal industry, which cut in to coal severance money.

"Our county government depends on coal severance money to operate county government on and to do improvements. Roads, police cars, and everything we get is with coal severance money. If there is no coal production, we don't have that."
