Sheriff's Office: Boys Said Photo Inspired by Rap Music Video

New details are emerging about a disturbing picture that showed middle school aged boys gathered around an African-American baby doll with a noose around its neck.

Vanderburgh County Sheriff David Wedding said his office interviewed the Helfrich Middle School boys involved in the picture.

The sheriff said they were reconstructing a scene from a rap music video that depicted a lynching of a white boy.

The sheriff said there will be no criminal charges in the case.

According to the sheriff's office, the boys admitted that it was a prank and they now understand the severity of their actions.

“Based on what we know, it was just a dumb prank – poor decision making. We hope the parents now step in and do their role in educating the kids on how they are supposed to behave and teaching them that you have to be sensitive to other people around you in the community and some of the things you do can have a tremendous impact on other people,” said Sheriff Wedding.

The sheriff is also advising parents to stay on top of children's phone and social media activity to try and prevent something like this from happening again.
