Spottsville Bridge Causing Problems for School Buses

Parents had to make new arrangements to pick up their children from Spottsville Elementary in Henderson on Thursday.

Henderson County Schools posted this on their Facebook page:

Attention Spottsville Families. We have been informed this afternoon that our school buses are unable to cross the Spottsville bridge. Parents please contact the school to make arrangements for elementary pick-up.

Secondary buses will use an alternate route and will be on a delay.

KYTC officials have placed an 8 ton load limit on the bridge after inspections revealed an issued that required immediate attention.

KYTC released this information in a press release:

During a bridge inspection on Thursday, crews found deterioration in the steel structure that required a further reduction in weight limit. The 8 ton limit allows passenger vehicles to continue to cross safely.

Officials with KYTC’s Department of Highways District 2 Office have already begun work on designs for an emergency repair and will provide a timeline on when repairs could be complete as soon as possible.
