St. Vincent Hosts Car Seat Safety Technician Course Today

A car seat safety training course is taking place on Tuesday at St. Vincent Evansville.

Nearly 50 car seat technicians from across the area will be in attendance to re-certify their licenses and demonstrate how to properly install car seats.

During the course, technicians will be able to increase their knowledge about child passenger safety technical issues and demonstrate their proficiency using and installing different children's safety seats.

The program is taught by the Automotive Safety Program of Indianapolis, and they require CPSTs to complete this training every two years in order to serve as relevant resources in the field.

Car seat demonstrations will be available between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

The course is happening at St. Vincent Manor Auditorium, located across the street from the Emergency Room entrance.

According to AAA, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death and injury for all children.

Child restraints, or car seats, reduce the risk of injury by 71% to 82% and reduce the risk of death by 28% in comparison to children in seat belts alone.

Booster seats reduce the risk of nonfatal injuries by 45% among 4 to 8 year olds, when compared to the seat belt alone.
