Original Story

An Evansville man was arrested in Jasper following a 6 hour standoff.

It all began late Thursday afternoon in the 400 block of Clay Street.

Members of the U.S. Marshalls task force tried to serve a warrant on 33 year old Armando Gutierrez.

Gutierrez was wanted in Vanderburgh County for domestic battery with a deadly weapon.

When officers got to the home, they say he had barricaded himself in a crawl space in the basement.

Troopers say at one point, Gutierrez fired a round from a handgun but they do not believe he was shooting at them.

After hours of negotiations, SWAT team members were able to bring the standoff to a close.

Gutierrez was taken to Memorial Hospital for evaluation.

Five other people were taken into custody as well.

They are facing preliminary charges of visiting a common nuisance.
