Students and employees at Notre Dame University can receive birth control at no cost

(WEHT) - Students and employees at Notre Dame University will continue receiving birth control at no cost.

The catholic school said last month that it would end the coverage due to its religious beliefs.

The Trump administration's weakening of Obamacare's contraceptive mandate allowed it to do so.

Students and employees protested the decision and started an online petition.

The university's president announced Tuesday that the school decided to continue providing coverage.

He says the institution never wanted to prevent access to contraceptives, it just didn't want to be compelled by the government to provide them.
