Study shows millennials are flocking to Owensboro

Owensboro is one of the top 11 cities millennials are moving to

A new study shows one of the Tri-State's largest cities is becoming a major attraction for millennials buying a new home.

According to mortgage firm Ellie Mae, Owensboro is one of the top 11 cities millennials are moving to.

Forty-eight percent of all mortgages closed in the city are done by people in their twenties and early thirties.

City commissioner and realtor Jay Velotta says Owensboro's proximity to other larger cities is one reason young people are choosing to move there.

"It puts us in a position where we're a few hours away from a big metropolis,” said Velotta. “But yet, we have a great offering here in Owensboro. An experience, if you will, of having the ability to offer a bigger city feel, but yet we're still a smaller community."

The study also cited downtown's makeover and location of several major employers.

Athens, Ohio ranked first in the study.
