Surprise decorations found at historic cemetery

Caretakers of a historic Hopkins County cemetery are wondering who left a surprise at hundreds of grave markers.

An anonymous person or group put hundreds of red bows, with bells attached, on white crosses at Barnsley Cemetery near Earlington.

The discovery was made last week.

Barnsley is a historically African-American cemetery which was rediscovered and cleaned up a year and a half ago.

Caretaker Philip Hunt said he was touched by the anonymous act.

The grave markers were first put there by workers from the Hopkins County Jail when the cemetery was first rehabbed.
