Tri-State siblings recognized for lifesaving heroism

The American Heart Association presented the Heartsaver Hero Award on Friday to two Newburgh residents in recognition of their efforts to save a woman's life.

On August 26, the AHA said Ryan Daywalt and his sister Lesley Smith were returning from a family vacation when the car in front of them veered off the road.

The two stopped and went to investigate.

They found a 62-year-old woman suffering from sudden cardiac arrest.

Both Daywalt and Smith work in healthcare and are CPR certified.

They immediately began high-quality compressions and rescue breaths.

They performed CPR on the woman until EMS arrived.

The woman survived and regained consciousness on the way to the hospital.

The Walton County, Florida Fire Rescue Department said Daywalt and Smith were “true heroes.”
