After an initial delay, Vanderburgh County Commissioners approve an agreement called a memorandum of understanding for the development of University Parkway.
The Evansville Metropolitan Planning Organization brought the M.O.U. before the commissioners for them to agree to their part in the University Parkway construction project.
The commissioners delayed the vote at a previous meeting after having legal concerns about the understanding. Those concerns have since been resolved.
"It was always a good idea," said Vanderburgh County Commission President Bruce Ungethiem. "It had to do with legal language about what the county would be liable for if for some reason we didn't adhere to every step in the process, so we just opened that up a little bit so it became a more flexible document."
The project will expand a six mile section of the parkway to prepare for development.
The understanding will need approval from the Area Planning Commission and the Metropolitan Planning Organization before work can begin.
