VCSO: Man Dies in Early Morning Crash

The man that crashed into the Safety Kleen building early Thursday morning has died.

Authorities say Robert K. Akin, 64, of Evansville was the driver.

We are told a witness observed Akin let go of the steering wheel and clutch his chest with both hands.

VCSO says Akin reportedly leaned back into the seat and the vehicle then accelerated and struck the curbing.

The truck then reportedly ran off the right side of the road and traveled through the grass until it collided with the building.

Authorities say Akin later died at the hospital and the primary cause of the crash was listed as driver illness.
