Wide Haul Acid Settler Headed to Fairfield, IL

A wide haul is slowly making its way through the state of Illinois toward an oil field refinery in Fairfield.

The giant piece of equipment is what Illinois State Police call an acid settler.

It's been making its slow journey from Albion to Fairfield since 7 a.m.

It's the first part of a two-day trip to a refinery in Robinson, Illinois.

It's 26 feet wide and more than 300 feet long. It weighs nearly 900,000 lbs.

People living along the highway lined the road on Wednesday, impressed by the size and the support needed.

Among those helping were crews from Frontier Communications – lifting power lines and cables high enough so the truck can clear it.

The equipment continues its journey Thursday morning to Flora.
