A Tri-State man is hoping to resurrect a plan he created seven years ago that would create a gateway into the heart of downtown Evansville.

Steven Wozniak, who worked to develop Haynie’s corner, said his plan calls for a greenway from the Coliseum to the Lloyd Expressway. Two vacant lots and three buildings fill the proposed site. Raben Tire occupies one of the buildings. James Raben said the location is the company’s original tire store and has a lot of sentimental value. However, he said they would “entertain looking at the idea.”

Wozniak said the project will cost millions and is hoping for a public-private partnership.

He met with the Mayor’s chief of staff Wednesday morning to discuss the plan. Representatives from the mayor's office said Wozniak’s plan “is a conversation worth having, but not an endorsement.”

This is the second time Wozniak has proposed the plan. He first proposed it in 2007, but feels downtown development momentum has increased since then.
