The man suspected of setting a west side home on fire Monday is now facing more charges. According to the Vanderburgh County Prosecutor’s Office, Christopher Compton is facing three murder charges and 13 charges of arson resulting in bodily injury. Each arson count represents a person killed or injured in the fire, including firefighters. Keri Jones, her three-year-old daughter and Donald Lankford died in the blaze.

The Evansville Police Department has indicated Compton also may be charged with being a habitual offender.

Earl Iverson said he was sitting at the bus stop on the corner of N. Main and Franklin Monday when Compton calmly approached him and admitted starting the blaze. Iverson said he alerted police officers as soon as Compton walked away. Compton was arrested shortly after near the Liquor Locker on Heidelbach.

Compton will be formally charged Friday morning.
