Mandatory 10-digit dialing that was set to take effect on September 6th has been delayed.
The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission made the announcement yesterday.
Officials with the IURC say they made the decision because many businesses and telecommunications providers may be behind in their preparations for the switch.
Mandatory 10-digit dialing is part of the "8-1-2 Order" passed July 31st, 2013 that requires Indiana's 8-1-2 area to switch to a 9-3-0 area code and dial all 10 digits when making local calls.
Officials say they plan to meet on September 3rd for a technical conference to determine if the order should be modified
