Mesker Park Zoo and Botanic Garden has the ‘green light’ to work on plans for the first step of its action plan.
The Evansville Parks Board gave the zoo the go-ahead Wednesday to move forward with an architect’s plan to draw blue prints for a carousel, aviary and treehouse.
Marketing director Abigail Adler said the price tag for all three will about 3.5 million dollars. She expects most of the funding to come from private donations and public-private partnerships.
This is the first step of the zoo’s action plan that will eventually bring penguin and African wildlife exhibits to the zoo.
Adler said they expect to break ground on the carousel in about 18 months.
