A soaking on the west side of Evansville leaves some homeowners battling familiar flood waters. "It's getting overwhelming."

Rain showers in Evansville wash up some major problems for one west side neighborhood. "We've been dealing with this for several years," says Jonathan Hausmann.

Hausmann and his neighbors show us around their block at North Elm and Franklin streets. "Its progressing. Every year it's gotten worse," says Hausmann.

They say when it rains, it pours, and they're left with significant flood damage. Hausmann says the problem is a pipe the water should drain into. The pipe was too small and has collapsed. "We've got a collapse in the pipe. It's basically backing up further, and further," says Hausmann.

He says the city knows about the problem. "The City Engineer just came in. He is doing the best he can."

The county knows about the problem as well, because this neighborhood, is split by the line. "They're actually coming out and taking our concerns," says Hausmann.

Until it's fixed, they're left with all of this water. Some neighbors take matters into their own hands. "One neighbor even put a concrete wall up to maybe slow the water down to getting into his garage, but there's been a couple of times that it even went up over the twelve inch wall."

The flood washes up more than worry. "We've got neighbor's trash, cigarette butts, and we've got a lot of other stuff that people don't even want to see in their backyards," says Hausmann.

It's a problem bringing this neighborhood together, and not for the right reasons. "We all gather up and show our own pictures like, look what I got. It's getting a little comical, but we are getting tired of it," says Hausmann.

The neighbors say the city and county have been out to help address the problem, however, they're not sure when the flooding will be fixed.
