Motion To Stay Raises Questions For Same-Sex Couples

-

Same-sex couples are raising questions after the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals granted a motion by the Indiana attorney general to stay the ruling that overturned the state’s same-sex marriage ban. The stay stops same-sex marriage licenses from being issued in Indiana.

Representatives from the American Civil Liberties Union in Indianapolis said they believe the marriages need to be recognized.

When asked about the status of same-sex marriage licenses that have already been granted, the Indiana Attorney General’s Office said it is ‘undetermined’ and ‘such issues may be determined by a court later.’

The office said the next step is each side submitting its appeal brief to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals. The briefing should be completed by September 19th
