4 off-duty Vigo County Sheriff's Deputies, working as private security guards, are facing charges of accepting bribes.
The deputies were hired help control with traffic, and to issue citations at the Scheid Diesel Festival in Terra Haute.
The guards issued citations to motorists for various offenses, and then allegedly told the drivers they could immediately pay the fine in cash.
Sheriff Greg Ewing says the cash payment is illegal.
He said, "It is the fact that it is outside the scope of their authority and that is unacceptable and you know you're talking about integrity and honesty and so forth and it's just unacceptable behavior."
Ewing says he'll be disappointed if the investigation confirms the allegations.
