The Kentucky Cancer Program honored local breast cancer survivors, and raised awareness for early cancer screenings.
Miss America 2000 Heather French-Henry was on hand, along with legendary jockey P.J. Cooksey, a breast cancer survivor.
Horses and Hopes is a project by Kentucky First Lady Jane Beshear, who combined her two passions together: horse racing and breast cancer awareness.
"The way she's done that," said Jaime Rafferty of Kentucky Cancer Program, "is we begun by educating the horse racing staff be it from the front side to the back side about the importance of screening and early detection and then utilizing the spaces that are here and letting these survivors come out and have a day that's dedicated to them."
The fifth race today was dedicated as the Horses and Hope race.
