The Evansville City Council is looking to change the way lead paint is inspected to keep up with stricter guidelines on how lead poisoning is defined.

The ordinance would require children to be tested for lead poisoning if lead paint is suspected, and the property owner would be responsible for removing it. It gives the Health Department more authority in doing inspections.

If approved, this would be the first time in 31 years the council's updated the lead paint ordinance.
