The original call came in just before 9 p.m. It was tapped out about an hour and a half later. Officials say the fire started in the back of a vacant home, then spread to a neighboring vacant home. Neither home was occupied, but the Evansville Police Department was told there might have been a squatter inside the home where the fire originated.
Several blocks were closed off while fire crews worked to tap out the fire. Those streets have since then reopened.
Police have several roads blocked off at this time. No word yet on what caused the fire or if there have been any injuries.
