In Evansville dozens gathered aboard the LST 325 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of D-Day.
Mayor Lloyd Winnecke welcomed the crowd and Rear Admiral Walt Wittholz talked about the importance of the LST on that fateful day.
Ceremonies are taking place across the Normandy region, many of them on the beaches where the Allied Forces landed.
President Obama said today that some 150,000 Allied Forces headed for "this sliver of sand upon which hung more than the fate of a war, but the course of human history."
