UPDATE (11:00 P.M.): Evansville Police responded to a call of an explosive around 9:30 p.m. on Tekoppel Ave. Several homes reported hearing a loud explosion.

Sgt. Steve Evans of the EPD Bomb Squad tells Eyewitness News officers found an altered firework under the Lloyd Expressway overpass. Sgt. Evans says the altered firework was able to create a strong enough blast to shake homes in the area and described it as a grenade going off.

EPD believes someone lit the altered firework, threw it aside, and drove off in a vehicle. Officers do have a description of a vehicle that left the scene.

Sgt. Evans say anytime you alter a firework in anyway shape or form, it is considered a felony.

UPDATE (10:35 P.M.):
Evansville Police say the initial explosive device is no longer a threat. Officers however are now checking the area for secondary devices.

Evansville Central Dispatch confirms the Evansville Police Department Bomb Squad has been called out to Tekoppel and Lloyd Expressway to investigate a possible explosive device.

EPD is asking people to avoid this area out of concern of possible secondary devices. Officers say anyone with information on the incident should call 911.

We have a crew headed to the scene and will bring you more information as it becomes available.
