Today was the first day of classes at the new Webster County Middle School just south of Dixon. It's near the high school.
School officials say more than 340 students are expected to roam the halls this school year. This is the first ever middle school in Webster County.
"Every parent that we talked to seemed extremely grateful to the board of education for construction of a middle school," said Superintendent Dr. Rachel Yarbrough. "I think the Webster County School District has really realized that it needed to have a facility to better meet the needs of middle school students."
School officials say a middle school was needed after major restructuring of county elementary schools which included the closure of one near Slaughters.
