The 150th Edwards County Fair starts this weekend, and the new grandstand roof is finished just in time.

Last winter, the roof collapsed under the weight of snow. Some support poles were also damaged. The new roof was finished about a week ago.

Fair Board member George Fewkes says he didn't expect the roof to buckle under the snow, but he's glad the new roof is on in time for the fair.

"This wasn't in our plans to have a new roof," said Fewkes. But yeah, it's great, and it looks great. And I think the people will appreciate it when they see it. But some things you just can't plan on."

Fewkes says the grandstand will be used to view motocross races, demolition derby, and a tractor pull.

Fewkes says eventually the fair board would like to add about 30 feet of roof to cover the seating area next to the grandstand.
