Help Has Arrived for Familes Making Way for D-Patrick Move
The clock is ticking on the people who have to move to make way for D-Patrick's new dealership near downtown Evansville. The money has arrived for moving help, and the church involved is helping people re-locate.
D-Patrick downtown has proposed moving to the area near Highway 41 and the Lloyd Expressway.
The dealership has to move in order to make way for the IU Med School.
Earlier this month, the city announced a partnership with the non-profit arm of Memorial Baptist Church.
The non-profit would take the $20,000 granted to them, and help the 17 families with moving costs, like deposits.
Officials say the non-profit received the check late last week and have already helped one family relocate.
Reverend Adrian Brooks says they're approaching the situation as a ministry.
Reverend Brooks said, "The Bible says faith without works is dead so here is an opportunity for us to just do the right thing. We're not getting any money. No resources, none of those things. This is simply being a conduit. "
Reverend Brooks expects all of the remaining families to be taken care of by the end of this week, which is the deadline for them to move.
D-Patrick downtown has pledged to reimburse the city for the $20,000 once everything is done.
