Indiana Superintendent Glenda Ritz is touring southwestern Indiana just as the new school year begins.

Ritz attended a grant presentation for the National Center for Families Learning in Evansville. The group received a $30,000  grant from Old National Bank.

Her visit comes more than a week after the state agreed to a $3 million deal with McGraw Hill over ISTEP problems back in 2013.

"We are going to have a new assessment," said Ritz, "so CTB is assisting us in making sure that our new assessment is in line with our new standards. So, we have to have a fully aligned assessment with our new standards, and they're working with us to make sure that happens."

Ritz also appeared at schools in Oakland City, Wadesville, and Poseyville today.
