EVSC Superintendent Dr. David Smith says because all school days are based on the Southern Indiana Career and Technical Center, junior high and high school hours were already established with an earlier start. Therefore, elementary hours needed to be adjusted to allow 34 minutes of extra time.
It's a change Dr. Smith says makes sense.
"We are very happy to have a longer school day for our elementary students," said Dr. Smith, "because it was one of the shortest in the state, and now it basically is average in or equal to other elementary days throughout the state."
The longer school day for elementary students was announced in April.
