Owensboro city and Daviess County officials are helping a local college expand, so they can expand more minds.

$2 million are being committed to help build an addition to Owensboro Community and Technical College Advanced Tech Center.

Mayor Ron Payne and Judge Executive Al Mattingly pledged $1 million each in city money to pay for construction. It's part of the college's "Build Smart" initiative, which encourages more local investment for local colleges.

School officials say the college needs to raise $4.5 million for the center.
