Owensboro Officials Introduce Fairness Ordinance

- Owensboro city officials working on a new law to protect members of the LGBT community. The Fairness Ordinance would protect people from workplace discrimination.

The Owensboro Human Relations Commission presented the proposal Tuesday night. Only six cities in the commonwealth currently have a similar law in place.

"We're protecting individuals," said Sylvia Coleman, "who, by virtue of being born, are different from us, and deserve to be treated with the fairness that all citizens are treated with."

City officials say a first reading could be held at the next commission meeting, later this month.
