Baseball is widely known as America's pastime. One of the many reasons the Red Cross is teaming up with the Evansville Otters baseball team to help support the U.S. military.

At the Red Cross in Evansville, several of the Otters players were there to meet fans and collect school supplies. Those supplies will be stuffed in backpacks for kids who have parents serving in the military.

A long time baseball fan, veteran, and Evansville native who remembers when the team was known as the Nationals, is proud all of these are coming together for the community.

"Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and Chevrolet," said Jon Brown. "It means a lot it's our national sport as everyone knows, and it truly is."

Everyone who donated school supplies today got a free ticket to the Otters game tonight, where it's Military Appreciation Night at Bosse Field.
